To start 2024, Google has decided to do what every employee dreads (while some want) – getting team-shuffled at the start of the year.
That’s right – Google has decided to completely reshuffle their Google Ads team, which stood at 30,000 employees at the end of 2023.
The Google Ads Sales department of the USA is under the helm of Sean Downey. He recently announced plans for substantially restructuring the department while conducting the departmental meeting last week.
Since we already covered the fact that Google Ads will see new changes in the form of Google Ads Support using AI, this decision to reshuffle simply proves it.
Therefore, Google will now actively work towards implementing and integrating the use of AI in their Support department. Moreover, the Google Ads support team members will be restructured to fit other teams.
Another catalyst for this change is the launch of the Google Gemini AI – which many expect to be a game-changer. Since many expect 2024 to be the year of AI – where everything will soon get integrated with the use of AI – this comes as no surprise.
Not only Google Ads but most firms with digital products and services will soon start implementing AI at a greater level than ever before to automate most tasks. Therefore, this poses another challenge that many fear with the rise of AI – employee layoffs.
Many believe that the 30,000-strong Google Ads Sales team will see many layoffs in the upcoming weeks. Even though Google saw an 11% increase in overall revenue compared to last year, employee layoffs are still being considered.
Moreover, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has further cemented upcoming layoffs with this statement made earlier in 2023:
“I have some difficult news to share. We’ve decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 12,000 roles. We’ve already sent a separate email to employees in the US who are affected. In other countries, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices.”
