Every webmaster and content creator has a love-hate relationship with Google Core updates since they can change their website traffic in various ways. Now, we get the new Google October 2023 Spam Update, which was rolled out yesterday, October 4, 2023.

This time, Google has enhanced its crawlers to better identify spammy content across multiple languages. This was made after they received feedback where users reported that spammy content was coming up on the search engine results page (SERP) for non-English languages.

Google has updated its site crawlers to identify spammy content easily in multiple languages like Turkish, Hindi, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and more.

Apart from language-based spam identification, Google is also targeting various types of spam content in a better way. Here are various types of spammy content that will be affected by this new update:

  • Hidden texts and links on webpages that are visible to Google’s search engine crawlers but not you
  • AI-generated content with no valuable information
  • Article scraping from websites on a large scale
  • Web pages that load up with too many on-screen ads, resulting in poor user experience
  • Affiliate pages with misleading links and poor-quality content created only for monetization purposes
  • Pages that misrepresent products and services

Most of these spam issues were found on non-English sites. Users who use Google in their native language were unsatisfied with SERP results, which prompted this feedback and update from Google.

It will take a few weeks for the Google October 2023 Spam Update to fully roll out. Till then, ensure that your website complies with Google’s Spam policies.
