Today’s topic: How does Snap Score work?

Back in 2015, I can tell you Snapchat was the coolest thing to be on – and maintaining your snap streak was more essential than anything else.

But that was a decade ago, and it is impressive that we are still on Snapchat doing the exact same thing – sending snaps and maintaining our streaks

In fact, that is how I talk to my best friend on most days. It is definitely a unique social media app – just think about how creative the app is.

For example, the social media app measures how active someone is on the app through their snap scores. And the whole focus on real-time content over curated content? Genius!

For so many people, your snap score isn’t just a random number. Instead, it defines how active you have been on the social media app – it feels less like a score and more like a reward.

In fact, we often compare our snap scores, discussing them like a social badge. Naturally, a higher snap score shows frequent activity, consistent interactions, and stronger connections.

Also, this score comes with a playful aspect – it pushes users to post stories, send snaps, and maintain streaks just to increase their snap scores.

And today, I’m going to break down one such unique Snapchat query – the role of snap scores, how it measures your activity status on the app, and what to do if your snap score fails to update.

Stay tuned.

What Is Snap Score?

What Is Snap Score

Your Snap Score is a number that shows how active you have been on the social media platform. It primarily reflects the number of snaps you get and send.

Moreover, it also reflects other actions, including how well you have been maintaining your streaks and how frequently you have been posting stories.

FYI, this score usually appears on a user’s profile – just look for it beneath your username. Also, note that it appears like a quick snapshot summarizing your overall Snapchat activity.

Interestingly, Snapchat hasn’t divulged how it calculates this score – and it continues to remain a mystery.

Still, receiving and sending snaps continue to remain one of the biggest parameters that encourage all users to engage frequently with their friends.

Also, while additional features or specific in-app actions might play a crucial role, the basics are actually very simple – your snap score directly depends on the number of snaps you are sending.

Does A High Snap Score Comes With Benefits For Users?

Of course, the rising popularity of snap score in pop culture and social media lingo clearly points to one question: does this actually benefit Snapchat users in any way?

Well, a high snap score doesn’t directly unlock any rewards, money-making options, or even new features for users.

It is just a playful way of competing with your friends – you can use it as an indicator to measure how frequently you are active on Snapchat.

Having said that, your snap score does have some indirect benefits.

For instance, public accounts or brands with a high snap score appear to be more credible – and as a result, attract more engagement.

Since fake Snapchat accounts generally start with a snap score of zero, a solid score can be an indicator of authenticity.

For daily users, a good snap score is a friendly indicator of commitment and popularity on the social media platform, rather than some real-world advantages.

How Does Snap Score Work?

How Does Snap Score Work

As per Snapchat’s official support page, the social media platform has a secret formula for calculating a user’s snap score.

However, one thing stays fixed in this context: your snap score never resets or goes down. It will only increase if you continue to stay active.

Moreover, the exact information isn’t public, but based on user testing and official support pages, the main actions that have an impact on your snap score are as follows:

  1. Sending Snaps: Every time you send a snap, whether a video or a photo, you get points.
  2. Receiving Snaps: Every time you open a snap from friends, you get points.
  3. Posting Stories: Every time you post a story, you get points.
  4. Maintaining Streaks: If you have ongoing snapstreaks, then maintaining them will also get you additional points.
  5. Returning After No Activity: It is possible to get a small boost once you return to Snapchat after a long break.

Also, I came across an interesting piece of information, thanks to a fellow user on Reddit who was tracking their snap score comprehensively over time.

Based on his detailed research, here are some points that they observed:

  • Snap score updates aren’t always instant. Sometimes, it takes hours or even days to get updated.
  • You can add huge numbers of snaps in chunks. For instance, sending 50 snaps in a single day might later appear as an increase divided into 40, 30, and 30.
  • High snap scores tend to increase faster, with some Snapchat users even witnessing multiple points for sending every snap instead of only one.
  • Bonus points can appear for adding texts, posting multiple stories, using filters, maintaining streaks, and exchanging snaps with Snapchat+ users.
  • Sending a single snap to several friends can increase points, and that too for every recipient.

Is There Any Maximum Snap Score?

There’s no cap officially on the maximum limit for snap scores.

But what is certain in this context? The number can keep increasing depending on how active you have been on the social media app.

Unlike some other in-app features on Snapchat that come with certain limits, your snap score has been designed in a way that it will continue to grow with no maximum limit.

Moreover, some of Snapchat’s most active users already have scores in the millions.

For insurance, reports tell me that the user with the highest snap score is @mustbecris – the account has a snap score of 320 million.

This proves there is no maximum snap score. It depends on how long you have been using the social media app’s main features.

What Is Snapscore Multiplier?

Perhaps the most popular feature of Snapchat+ is Snapscore Multiplies.

So, when you turn this feature on, your score will increase twice as quickly – and that too every time you exchange snaps.

But it will only happen if you are exchanging snaps with Snapchat+ subscribers. Also, this feature is usually off, and that too by default.

But you can easily enable it – follow the steps below to enable this feature.

  1. Open your Snapchat profile.
  2. Click on the ‘Snapchat+ membership’ card.
  3. Now toggle the ‘Snapscore Multiplier’ button on.

Interestingly, for several Snapchat users, the quickest way of increasing their snap scores is this feature, and this is why so many users actually upgrade to the paid version of Snapchat.

How To Increase Your Snap Score Safely?

If you are planning to increase your snap score safely, then I have some good news for you. For starters, there’s more than one thing you can do to make it happen. And the best part?

All my methods work because all of them are linked to how the social media app measures user activity.

On that note, here’s how you can increase your snap score safely:

1. Send Snaps Daily:

The primary way to increase your snap score is to send and receive as many snaps as possible – and the safest way to do it is to send snaps daily.

Also, ensure you are maintaining a healthy mix of both photo and video snaps. Plus, remember on Snapchat, our simple text chats does not count. So try to keep things visual.

    2. Add New Friends:

Yep, even if you hate adding people to your Snapchat, it really helps to make new friends on this social media app.

Moreover, networking with people here will create the opportunity for exchanging snaps. This, in turn, naturally pushes your snap score to increase.

      3. Post Stories Frequently:

I always think stories are a great way to keep up with everyone and show your activity to the algorithm – and not only on Snapchat but also on Instagram.

As a result, post stories frequently – it keeps you visible and active with each story actually contributing to your overall snap score.

        4. Maintain Your Snapstreaks:

Exchanging snaps daily with the same people is excellent – and if you have been doing this, then that’s even better. I’ll tell you why!

So, exchanging snaps daily ensures you are maintaining your streaks. And Snapchat actually rewards consistency on the platform with additional points.

          5. Open All The Snaps You Receive:

I have already discussed this in my first point, but for clarity, I would like to revisit it. So, all those snaps you don’t open? Honey, this ain’t WhatsApp that you will leave people on ‘unread.’

On Snapchat, leaving your inbox full is a bad decision – opening every snap you get is important – and valuable – for increasing your snap score.

            6. Take A Break And Return:

This sounds shady for anyone feeling lazy but wanting to increase their snap scores. Taking a break and returning after a while is an excellent way to get a small boost.

Some users have reported noticing a small bump in their snap scores after staying inactive for some time. As a result, taking a break and making a comeback does have an advantage.

              7. Try Snapchat+ And Access Snapscore Multiplier:

With the help of Snapscore Multiplies, you can double your snap score every time you send and receive snaps – but you have to exchange snaps with other Snapchat+ subscribers

                Please Note:
There is no point in sending the same photo or video snap to many friends at the same time. It does not add much value in teams for increasing your snap score. Moreover, it puts your account at risk of getting flagged. As a result, it is best to exchange snaps with friends, be consistent, and stay active to increase your snap score naturally.

Why Is Your Snap Score Not Increasing? What To Do?

Sometimes, it is possible that your snap score fails to increase even if you are consistent and active on Snapchat. This necessarily does not always mean something isn’t right.

In several cases, your snap score might just be taking some time to update. Having said that, it is possible that some common issues can stop your snap score from updating.

In that case, here are some common problems that can stop your snap score from updating, and the ways to troubleshoot each problem.

                Common IssueHow To Solve?
Poor Internet ConnectivityTry switching between your WiFi and mobile data. Also, turn on Flight Mode and turn it off again. This might reset connectivity.
Account RestrictionsIf Snapchat flags your account, then your snap score can freeze. The only way to solve this is to contact user support.
App Glitches and BugsUpdate Snapchat to the latest version and restart your device. It is pretty common for Snapchat to have temporary glitches and bugs.
Server ProblemsServer maintenance or outages can easily delay snap score updates. Just check the status pages online for confirmation and wait it out.
Delayed SyncingEven if everything is fine, your snap score might not update easily. In that case, post a story and wait for the score to update a little later.
Storage or Cache LimitsFreeing up space on your device and clearing cache can help your snap score update, since low storage and high cached data can cause issues.

So, if your snap score is still not updating, then you can log out of your Snapchat account and then log back in.

Also, you can uninstall the app and then reinstall it – this will refresh connectivity. And if nothing works, then your last step is to get in touch with Snapchat Support
